Zdravo! Our little rosy-cheeked Ava is now 118 weeks old!

Let me just start of this blog with a little known fact. Our Ava is a messy eater, if not the messiest. That’s why our toddler still uses a bib at home. I don’t have the time or the patience for stains on cute dresses… dresses that I wish came in my size! But I can’t control what happens at school. Especially when it’s snack time and brownies are involved.

We haven’t been Airstreaming in a long while since we don’t want to wander too far from home with this pregnancy. But Dan was getting ants in his pants so we agreed to make an overnight visit to Lake Piru, which is only about 45 minutes away from us. As soon as we got there and started unpacking, Ava and Grace immediately started to clean up the site… by choice. We wouldn’t dare break child labor laws. Here they are being busy little bees… picking up a million bee-bee pellets, a few bottle caps, and a lonely caterpillar.

They didn’t stop until our site was spotless. Here they are finding refuge under an olive tree. Ahh shade!

This campsite was near a lake but did not have any water hook-ups for us. So no water hook-up = limited water for the kids’ squirters = sad kids.

So it was time to hit the lake. The lake didn’t have much of a beach. We actually hiked through a dry river bed so we could escape the heat a bit.

Even though it wasn’t much of a beach, the lake and the surrounding mountains were nice.

And the kids got play in the dried river sand together.

As her cheeks got rosier, she decided it was time to take her dress off. And if you have around Ava and her bathing suit lately, you know she loves to stand inches from you, rubbing her belly, waiting for you to comment on her cute swimsuit. Hehe.

Glen brought along his brand new red canoe and guess who really wanted to go for a ride? Yes, Ava…

…and Grace too.

Truthfully, I didn’t want her to go. Not without me. Not that I don’t trust Dan with her, but it’s just that I have this reoccurring nightmare about losing Ava in murky water. Not sure why… memories from a past life, a sign, a stupid dream that doesn’t mean a thing… whatever it is, I don’t care… but now I am always super careful with Ava around water.

During the canoe ride, Ava got a little scared once the little waves started to rock the canoe. But Dan saved the day. He started to sing the ‘Grumpy Old Troll’ song from the Dora cartoons she watches, and made it all better.

Here they are getting off of the canoe at the launch ramp. Ava said it was fun.

This was our first time camping Airstreaming in the heat. And thus, it was our first time using the air conditioner too. The kids loved it… and so did we. Here they are having a tea party while the rest of us tried to pack up our belongings… hoping to bring home the least amount of dust possible. Lake Piru is a dust bowl!

The funny thing about the last hour of our trip was that Ava tackled Nathan. Not funny for Nathan but funny because Ava totally reversed their roles. He is usually the one that attacks her but not this time. This time it was payback. I think the heat got to her. Hehe.

Since the kids didn’t have a chance to cool-off in the lake, Grace invited Ava to her new pool. The water was a bit cold but that didn’t stop them.

We had a little miracle this week. The Potty Chart got completed. But not without a lot of begging. After filling in all the boxes, Ava got a special surprise. Her first tattoo. Check out her right hand. Yup, Dora.

Our initial bribery plan involved taking Ava to Target after she completed each row for a special gift. But the Target trip was too overwhelming for her. She wanted everything and nothing at the same time. We ended up convincing her that she wanted this microphone. And it was hit when we got home. But she ended up doing more dancing that singing to it. As for the special gift at the end of each row, Dan had a better idea. I’m going to buy a few cheapo gifts, wrap them and leave them by the Potty Chart. More incentive for her. Instant gratification.

Ava has been a little sick for a week now. Snotty nose and a cough that will not go away. A cough that won’t go away? WHAT? Surprise surprise.

Her coughing is interrupting her nap time at school since she needs to sleep with a humidifier. On Monday, all she did was yawn every 5 seconds at home. And when I asked her if she was tired, she always answered ‘no’.

Whenever Ava sees Yoda’s mouse toys laying around, she looks for Yoda, drops it by her side and says ‘Here you go Yoda’. Yoda usually thanks her by running away.

During the last wedding we went to, someone slipped a dollar into Ava’s purse. That purse has been sitting in our car for a while now, getting no attention from Ava… until this week. All week, it’s ‘open it Mama’ and ‘close it Mama’. She finally discovered that dollar. And said the funniest thing (funny to us, okay?). ‘I’m gonna buy ice cream’ and
‘Dada, I’m gonna buy Dada ice cream’. Hmmmm. I hope we can find a Thrifty’s around here that still has 25 cent scoops. Hehe.

Our picture taking has decreased. You probably can’t tell because this site is still going strong but we can. Mostly my fault. I’m tired. But on Tuesday, Dan said he didn’t want to take pictures of us at the pool. What? He said they are going to look exactly like last week’s pictures. And that were all wearing the same thing. How dare he!!!! I gave him the stink eye and the camera was busted out. Geez. You would think he was the one who has gained over 20 pounds already or something. So anyways, here is swim lesson #2. Aka, the one where Ava doesn’t want to pay attention. Aka, the one that Ava thinks it’s funny to run on wet cement and pretend to jump in by herself.

Oh Ava.

She loves the classes. She loves that I get to hold her. She loves the kick board. But she doesn’t like to get dunked under the water. Just like Mama! I had to dunk her under… twice… as soon as the class began. Not good. It really didn’t help that I wasn’t smiling when I did it either. She refused to let me do it again. So, every time she jumped into the water from the pool’s edge, I would purposely let her go under so she can start getting used to it. I can hear my little brother calling me a jerk right now. He doesn’t like getting dunked either.

Our friend Jeremy came over to work with Dan this week. Ava was a bit shy at first but then it was all about Jeremy. Jeremy, look at my princess dress. Jeremy, look at me eat. Jeremy, let’s make play-doh Boots. Jeremy, let’s color with markers. Jeremy, I went potty. Jeremy Jeremy Jeremy. I wonder if he would consider a part-time job as a manny.

I usually try to connect a picture with a story when I can but this story doesn’t have a picture. So this picture will have to do. Ava and Dada were coming into the bathroom for bath time. Ava asked Dada, in her Italian accent to ‘Close the Door-ahh’. Dan responded by saying ‘Close the Dora?’. Ava stared at him. Eyes wide open. And they both started to jiggle. I think she got her first joke. Hehe.

Okay. All done. Have a relaxing weekend. Bye!
