Ava: 145 weeks old…
Hi there. Our little ladybug is now 145 weeks old.

And if you are wondering if we ever found a pool to swim in during our vacation… the answer is YES! Say hello to the La Quinta Resort and Spa.

It was impossible to find a open public pool or water park in Palm Springs in the month of October. Why? Because 92 degrees is way too cold for swimming. I don’t know. I think people here are craaaaazy. We even saw them buying sweats and sweaters during our stay. Told you. Craaazy!

Ava was so excited to show off her kicking skills to Nicole.

And was sure we all knew that she could swim all by herself now.

And if you think we showed up to a random hotel and sneaked into their pool, you would be wrong. So wrong. So don’t arrest us!

Nicole’s parents were hotel guests. And we free-loaded tagged along.

Thanks guys! Keep the margaritas coming! Happy hour is almost over. Hehe.

The La Quinta Resort and Spa is such a relaxing place. The last time we were here, it was for our babymoon. I was 7 months pregnant with Ava. And now she is here. And almost three years old. And enjoying the pretty bridges and rivers herself.

And on her second day at the pool, she thought catching a ride on Nicole was an excellent idea.

And let’s not forget snack time.

She is super addicted to those fruit roll-ups from Trader Joe’s. She would eat 20 at a time if we let her.

Before we knew it, our pool time at La Quinta was done.

So long La Quinta. Hope to see you again real soon.

Ahhhh. The good life is over. Or is it?

It was time to mooch again. New hotel. With Dora no less. Score!

And at this new hotel, Ava started to swim on her back.

And got some lessons on how to fly from her Dada.

Deets and Carrie also stopped by for a visit. An Airstream trip almost doesn’t feel complete without a visit from these two. Ava got a chance to show off her new princess puzzle and tell them about the shark that lives the lake. No, she’s not confused. I lied to my kid. To make sure she didn’t get too close to the edge of the lake we were parked next to. The lake had no safety fence and had a really steep ledge which made me really nervous. I have mixed feelings about making up stories to keep my kid safe. It drives me crazy. But how do you explain to a kid that she could roll in and drown? I can’t. And I won’t. Now that I think about, telling my kid about a make believe shark is a little easier than telling her about drowning. The day will come when I will. But just not now.

On Sunday, we hit the road and took a little pit stop at the dinosaurs. It took some convincing for Ava to agree to see these guys. She has a fear of dinosaurs for some reason. (Totally not my fault. I didn’t say sh*t.) And a dinosaur monster is currently residing in Dada’s closet. That closet door has to be shut at bedtime or else all hell breaks loose. So anyways, Ava agreed that the dinosaurs were just pretend and we stopped for a bite to eat. And man, was it windy there. Check out her hair!

They are just pretend, Dada… Right?

She wasn’t as excited as me to see these guys. I think I need to introduce her to Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure soon. Real soon.

Tell ‘em Large Marge sent ya!!!

So back at home something great happened. She found all her toys and art supplies exciting again. Even though it only lasted a day, it was great to have her occupied so we can unpack some of our stuff from the Airstream. And that painting right there is of our chandelier. Her art pieces are slowly getting more detailed and deliberate.

While home, Ava continued with her hugs and kisses… and now tells Mila ‘I love you sooooo much‘. But one change that we did have this week was three potty incidents within three days. One was a real accident. One was on purpose. And one is a toss up. So on Saturday while at the pool, she told me she had to go pee. So I started to get out of the pool with her and she freaked. She ran back in, crouched in the shallow end and peed in the pool. Yup, she got a big time-out for that one. Then on Sunday on the way home, we drove all the way home from the dinosaurs without stopping because Mila was passed out. As soon as we got off of the freeway to get to our house, I heard Ava say that there is something wet in her car seat. Umm, yeah Ava. It’s called pee. Then on Monday morning, while eating breakfast, she looks at me from her high chair as pee is dripping onto the hardwood floor. That better have not been on purpose. I had enough. I placed her in some leftover diapers for a hour or so. And you know what? She stopped peeing and said she was a big girl. And from this week on, she now says ‘I’m a big girl now. I can do everything‘.

And we had a visitor this week. Yup, Jeremy. Ava did her ignoring thing with him in the morning when we all woke up. And did her ‘Mama look at me do this’ routine while she is actually hoping that the other person is paying attention. That’s my shy girl. But then at breakfast something strange happened. She became best friends with him. Quick. She hugged him. She snuggled with him. She gave all her attention to him. And then it hit me. I think she has a crush on Jeremy!

She was so excited to hang out in the booth with Jeremy that she slammed her head on the edge of the table and insisted on this forehead band-aid.

But then it came to an end. Jeremy was packing up just as we came come from the park… where she threw the 2nd biggest tantrum of her life. So embarrassing. Something about swings. Partially my fault. I somehow forgot to feed her that afternoon. And even through her tantrum tears, she said good-bye to her friend Jeremy. And the next time they see each other, will Ava ignore him again for a bit? You better believe it!

Oh, I forgot the mention Ava’s new ‘big girl’ stroller attachment. Yup, this is how she rolls. And she loves it.
