Dance Floor Showdown

Thursday, April 23rd, 2009

Here is your chance to check out Ava on the dance floor. Watch her first dance with Dada. Watch her show off her “tights”. Watch her enter a spinning competition… and then watch her have a head-on collision with the Bride and Groom’s wedding table. Hehe.

The Easter Egg Hunt

Wednesday, April 22nd, 2009

Hi. I’m Ava. Get out of my way. It’s Easter Egg Hunting time!!
P1010973

I. Must. Run. Fast.
P1010982

Keep running. No cheating Dada. I can do it all by myself.
P1010983

Oh man. I got a lot of eggs. So many that Nathan was even impressed. But don’t jack my eggs Nathan!
P1010988

I win! I win! I win! I’m the Easter Egg Champ.

My favorite eggs were the Elmo eggs. Watch me pass up all of the other eggs just to get the Elmo egg… and then almost get it swiped. Oh man!

Easter 2009

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009

Hi. I’m Ava and welcome to my Easter blog. I totally just woke up. Give me a few seconds.
Easter 2009

That’s better. I’m ready for my close-up now.
HAPPY EASTER!!!!

After my photo shoot, I stole the bunny out of the Easter basket and made my great grandmas really nervous. I think they thought I was going to catch a cold… or was it poke my eyes out. I can’t remember which it was.
P1010904

I knew I had a pretty dress on with sparkly shoes to match so I took a lot of pictures with my peeps. Here I am with Nona Estera.
Nona Estera and Ava

And with my Mama… and my little mystery sibling too.

Here I am thirsty with my Dida Slavo…

…and showing off a chocolate Easter bunny with my Nona Vinka. I guess it’s Dida’s turn to be thirsty.

All this picture taking is making me hungry. Time for some chips…
Chips

… and more chips. Hehe.
And more chips

Here I am with my Dada. He was taking a break after his responsibilities of watching the “meat” were over.
Dada and Ava

See? Here he is being responsible for the lamb while Dida was off praying at church that Dan didn’t mess it up. Hehe.
Dan watching the lamb

And then Deets showed up with… bugs? Do I like bugs?
Bugs!

Of course I do. Thanks dude.
Deets and Ava

Oh oh. I just heard a rumor that Nathan is coming over. I must hold all my gifts so he doesn’t try to steal any from me!
Trying to hold all of her gifts

Oh, it’s all good. He has his own presents. That was a close one. What? You want us to take a picture together right when we got new toys?
Nathan and Ava

Yeah right. Here is the best you’ll get today. Better luck next year.
Nathan and Ava

No more pictures. You are making Nathan’s head hurt…
P1010938

… and you are making my mustache hurt.
P1010940

Thank goodness. Barba Frank is here to save me with a dance.
Dancing with Barba Frank

Sorry no time to pose. I have to color bugs with Deets.

Fine. I will give you one more but that’s it. Man, does this kid love me or what!?!
Nathan loves Ava

My magic wand is telling me that dinner is ready. Let’s go eat! Who is in charge of praying this year?
Magical wand

Marko. Again. He is the future priest in the family. And that’s his brother Anthony. Last year he did a taste test with his Grandma’s Easter bread, my Nona’s Easter bread and some stranger’s Easter bread. He didn’t get the results he was hoping for… but don’t tell his Grandma.

And speaking of Easter bread, I think you are supposed to eat it like this, right?

Okay. Today’s Easter blog is over. Stayed tuned for the Easter Egg Hunt post tomorrow dear readers. As a parting gift, I leave you with this photo. A photo of my Dada trying to resist the urge to demolish this tray of Grandma’s Brown Balls. Hehe.

My very first swim class

Monday, April 20th, 2009

Hi. I’m Ava and you know what today is?
P1020068

My very first swim class. YEAH!!
P1020071

Let’s all sing. I’m going to the Y….M…C…A!
P1020072

Oh boy! This is it. I hope I can do it.
P1020074

This smaller pool is awesome and really warm and the best part… my Mama gets to hold me the entire time. Take that Baby!
P1020082

In swim class, I learned how to float on my back, get water in my ears and blow bubbles.
P1020078

But my favorite part was climbing out of the pool while saying elbow elbow knee knee and then jumping back in.
P1020081

I was supposed to wait until my Mama’s count of three but I had trouble with that part. Don’t be sared Mama!
P1020102

Ready or not… here I come!
P1020105

I so can’t wait for next week… and the week after… and the week after… you get the picture. Swim class is fun!

Hi there stara baba.

The Disappearing Bridge

Saturday, April 18th, 2009

Hi. I’m Ava and I am looking for the bridge. Have you seen it?
P1010618

Oh here it is. It’s time to cross the bridge now.
P1010620

Oh no. Where did it go?!? Where did the bridge go?

Whip cream 'stache

Hello! Our little burrito is now 27 months old!! YIPPEE!!!
Blanket ghost

And what was Ava doing just as she was turning 27 months old? Sleeping, of course. Here is her first picture as a 27 month old… trying to wake up from her afternoon nap.

On Friday, Ava had an Easter Party at school. When we got there, it had already begun (early!) with cupcakes, cookies and strawberries.
Easter party

Dan and I were very excited to watch her hunt for eggs with all of her classmates but it was too late. They already had the hunt in the morning instead of at the party. Boo hoo.
Ava's eggs from her school hunt

At home, Ava was so excited to open each and every egg she had collected. This kid is more excited about opening the eggs than she is about eating the candy. (Thank goodness!) It was the first time she ever saw a Peep too. And when she held it her hand for the first time, did she want to eat it? Nope. She wanted to go outside with it… because she was under the impression that it was a stick of sidewalk chalk instead of candy. Hehe.
P1010748

That did not happen. Don’t believe my Mama. I would never make a silly mistake like that. NEVER!
P1010742

With all the dancing she did at Mickey’s wedding, Ava has been a little bit of a dancing machine at home. Here we are dancing to some James Taylor while he performed on The Oprah Show.

We spent Easter weekend down south at my parents’. Ava got a brand new high chair but decided to not eat as much as usual for some reason. I think her stomach was bothering her a bit. Because you know something is wrong with Ava when she refuses soup and strawberries!
New high chair

So meal times were shorter and thus play times were longer. Here are Deets and Ava hiding under the Easter table, taking turns yelling ‘Get off of my land’ to anyone who got too close.
Get off of my land!

The last time Ava was at Grace’s house, she took a real liking to the fake bottles belonging to her baby doll. Realizing that Ava’s baby only had a stoller and no food, we ran to store so Ava could feed her starving baby.
Feeding baby. How sweet.

She had just as much fun feeding the baby as she had feeding herself. Silly Ava.
P1010787

On Saturday, Ava colored Easter eggs for the very first time. Here she is dunking her an egg for the very first time. An orange one. Orange you happy I  said ‘for the very first time’ only twice in this paragraph?
Ava's first egg she colored

And once the eggs were colored and decorated, Ava asked for more. Sorry Ava. All done.
My Easter eggs. Hands off.

On Saturday, Ava helped her Dida water the plants in the backyard. We must have refilled that little watering can twenty times. In the middle of the night, Ava woke up crying and complaining that her bottom hurt. So we brought her in bed with us for three long hours. She babbled, punched, kicked, etc until Dan finally placed her back into her bed so I could get some rest. But before he did, she looked at me and said ‘I love Mama. I love Dada. I love Nona. I love Yoda. I love outside… put water on dirt like Dida… and I love Baby’. How sweet is that. She did that for the VERY FIRST TIME.
Watering flowers... like Dida, she says.

So after a restless night, Ava finally laid an egg. In her diapers. On Easter. Very appropriate, I think.
Guess who laid an easter egg?

And her appetite slowly started to return. Here she is eating a decent amount of soup with Nona Dinka.
Soup time with Nona Dinka

Before we knew it, Easter was here. And Ava was so ready for the ‘party’. She had on a cute dress… and sparkly shoes that didn’t fit. But did she complain? Only if they fell off. What a real lady she has become. Wearing shoes that are too tight for the sake of their cuteness. Hehe.

You will have to wait for a special Easter post or two to find how the day went. But she did get this crazy doll in one of her Easter baskets. Let’s just say it’s the most annoying thing we’ve ever seen or heard. Dan wants to throw it in the trash. But did he?
P1020023

Nope! Ava likes it too much. I guess our only choice now is to wait for the batteries to die out. Hopefully soon. I might have to post a video of this doll so you can feel our pain too.
P1020024

We started to play soccer in the living room. Ava kicks the ball so much better than me. It’s pretty embarrassing. She refused to play the other day because we didn’t have jerseys. Can you believe that? Luckily we had a few jerseys from our trips to Croatia.
P1020033

Okay. Now we can play!
P1020030

Also this week, Ava discovered a new spot to watch TV from in the living room.
P1020060

She has designated all three of our couches as either the Dada Couch, Mama Couch or Yoda Couch.
P1020061

I guess she decided to claim the ottoman as the Ava Couch before the baby shows up.
P1020064

All right. It’s time to go and try to get Ava to potty… this sticker chart isn’t working as well as I was hoping it would. Bye!
