Silly face

Happy Ava

Our silly little Ava is now 42 weeks old. There is only 10 more weeks until her first birthday. Where has the time gone?
Fake smile again

Well, the time has gone into lots of dancing. Anything that even resembles music, like reading out loud, makes Ava shake her booty.
Silly Ava

And Ava still loves walking. She is gaining more control when she only has one of our hands to help her and is very careful with her technique. But if two hands are available, she prefers to run and giggle.
Yeah

We have been practicing her alone walking too. Dan and I sit face to face, leg distance apart, with Ava in between us. We take turns asking Ava to walk to us. She has been taking up to 5 steps at a time. Most of time she tends to veer to the right. And if we don’t have her balance before asking her to walk, she flies into us like superman. This kid trusts us a little too much.

I’m not sure why all her walking pictures look like she is on Saturday Night Fever. She looks like a mini John Travolta. hehe.

This week was picture day at daycare. Ava did great during her class picture with all her friends and teacher. But when it was time for her individual pose, Ava got a case of ‘the stranger anxiety’. So, the photographer wanted to try again the following day. The daycare directors tried everything to make her round two photo shoot go smoother. They even put a real bunny on her lap to distract her. It worked for the most part. We are not going to have a smiling picture of Ava but at least it won’t be a crying picture.
Tickles before picture day at school

When Ava is on the loose at home, she loves cruising around the ottoman… scoping out what type of stuff she can throw onto the floor.
I'm going to throw all this stuff on the floor now, ok?

Destructive Ava hits again.

Every night when bedtime draws near, we have tickle time on the couch. We gently throw Ava onto a pile of pillows and tickle her with everything we have.
IMG_9533

Here she is ready for more tickles.

And here she is after too many tickles.

When the three of us go out for dinner, we keep Ava entertained with Cheerios while we eat. She ends up double fisting them into her mouth and we have to keep repeating ‘one at a time, Ava’ to her.
Double-fisting cheerios

Over the weekend, the nice people at the Cheesecake Factory brought over a kids plate for Ava that had bananas on it. What a nice surprise.

One of Ava’s new favorite things is helping me fold laundry. But every once in awhile, I will forget to add a dryer sheet to prevent static cling and this happens.
Ava loves socks

The only way to reverse static cling is to eat the articles of clothing until they are all gone.
Yummy socks

As a reward, I gave Ava a ride in the laundry basket. Weeeee.

Here is Ava playing peek-a-boo with her mommy.

And here she is staring at the front lawn getting watered.
The sprinklers are on!

Hi sprinklers.

Ava discovered the diaper caddy this week and thought it was a good idea to pull all the diapers out of it. Good thing there were only two in there or she would have covered her entire bedroom floor with slippery diapers.
So tall

Here is Ava waiting for her dada to call from work in the afternoons.

The phone is ringing!
Dada is on the phone

Hello?
Hello?

A new thing Ava likes to do is to stretch out her arm whenever she is holding onto to something. Not sure if she is trying to hand things to us or not because sometimes she doesn’t let go. She does this a lot with food before she shoves it in her mouth.
IMG_9577

I sometimes take this opportunity to take the object out of her hand and say ‘thank you Ava’. Then I give it back to her and say ‘thank you Mama’. She thinks I’m silly.
Playing thank you game

She is starting to point a lot too this week. Here she is pointing at the camera after we picked her up from daycare.
Pointing

Seconds later, Ava pointed to her eye and passed out cold in her car seat. Playing at daycare tires her out.
Sleeping with finger on eye

And speaking of daycare, we caught Ava this week standing by the crib area, watching one of the little boys sleeping. Silly Ava.

Alrighty. Time for Ava’s opera lessons.

We’re free. We’re free. Nevermind.

Come on.

Fine. I’ll come back.

41 weeks old…

Friday, November 2nd, 2007

Hello there

Our cutie pie Ava is now 41 weeks old.
IMG_9203

Ava had quiet the busy weekend. She had a giggle-fest with Uncle David as he gently threw pillows at her.
Pillow throw laughing

And she got to watch Marko play soccer too.
IMG_9134

Yeah Marko. Use your head.

Ava also hung out at the beach with her mama while dada paddled around on his new board. Here is her best duck impersonation. Quack.
Ava as a shadow duck

We laid a towel down on the sand and Ava stayed on it the entire time. I was expecting her to get restless and to crawl around like a drunken sailor, but the sand kept that from happening.
Ava loves the beach, not the sand

One of Yoda’s long lost cat toys that she shows no interest in showed up this week. It is a bird (well, a Western Meadowlark to be exact) that makes chirping sounds. What? Is this for little ol’ me?
Shy Ava

She giggled each time the bird chirped and fluttered her eyelashes as she does when a real bird, like Little Buddy, flies around her. I guess Ava was expecting for it to fly away and tickle her face with the breeze it would generate. Hehe.
Giggling at Bird Toy

Ava is doing much better at picking up her own food now that I have given her more grab-able foods like cheese and peas. She even tries to feed us too. How nice of her.

Here is Ava sitting all alone. In most pictures, she looks so grown up to me but every once in awhile, a picture like this will remind me on how little really still is.
All alone

Lots of artwork this week. Here are Ava’s Halloween Hand and Foot Prints.

And a painted leaf she made for Uncle Eric’s birthday :)

Monkeys and crows use tools to get to things they want and now you can add Ava to that list. She spends lots of time in this corner, smiling at the picture of Rudy and trying to grab Yoda.
IMG_9227

But now she has figured out that standing on her piano will get her that much closer to Yoda. I’m going to get you my pretty!

Okay. It’s Halloween time. It was a long day, filled with fun, pictures and new milestones. The day began with Ava at daycare.
IMG_9274

She showed up as a ladybug who was scared to sit down… so she had no other choice but to stand like a big girl for longer periods of time.
Standing Ava

At lunch, we picked her up and took her home for a long nap before we were to return to daycare for the parade. She passed out while drinking her bottle, a few minutes after we got there.

After her power nap at home, Ava was back at daycare. Can you tell she knows what is going on?
IMG_9284

Then we were off to the parade. The infant room started off the parade. We entered all the other classrooms as the older kids sat on the floor. Lots of kids pointed at Ava and yelled ladybug.
Halloween Parade at Daycare

All the kids in the infant room were not too excited about their costumes. They were all kinda freaked out by each other and many of them were whining or crying. So sad. Ava tried to pull each Hannah’s costumes off, and Max just sat there crying in his monkey costume.
IMG_9320

Hannah got Ava back by tugging on her antennas. Silly girls.
What are these?

After the parade, Grace came over to take pictures with Ava but it didn’t go so smoothly. This was one of the only pictures of them together in their costumes.
IMG_8599

Ava enjoyed standing in front of Ollie.
IMG_8601

Ava still had a thing for the stem of the little pumpkin she picked out at the patch. I tried to grab it before it went in her mouth but she is really quick these days.
Pumpkin Straw

Hey you. Yes you. Keep reading. I know this is a long blog.
IMG_9344

We placed Ava on the grass. She was a bit frustrated with her costume on top of standing unsupported on the pokey grass. She had no other choice but to walk towards us… and she did! This is a picture of her first steps. Yippee. I actually took my first steps on Halloween when I was a kid. Every year my mom calls me to remind me of it on Halloween and now I can do the same with Ava when she grows up. :)
Ava's First Steps!!

We even squeezed in a picture of Ava with our authentic Halloween decoration, Yoda.
Ava and Yoda on Halloween

Then we waited for trick-o-treaters to show up to our doorstep.
IMG_9368

While we were waiting, Ava enjoyed sitting in a candy cloud. She was so over our picture taking by the end of the evening. Nothing could get her to smile.
Can I eat this?

Did you hear that? I think someone said ‘finito’. Thank goodness.
What did you say?

Ava started walking while she was wearing her lady bug Halloween costume. Here is a little video of her later Halloween night taking some more steps towards her daddy.

The Ava Dress

Cheese!

Ava got an amazing dress from TinySprouts with her name hand-embroidered on it. It is just adorable… and so are the pictures of her on the TinySprouts blog. She is such an internet star! Click on this link tinysprouts.blogspot.com to see more pictures of Ava in her Ava dress. Thanks Tracey!
