Ava talking in the bassinet in the morning

Sunday, April 29th, 2007

Ava is getting bigger and now she barely fits in her bassinet. We are starting to let her take naps in the crib and even started letting her sleep there overnight. Here she is doing her usual morning sing-a-long.

At 14 weeks old, drooling on her hands and lifting her dress are some of Ava’s favorite pastimes. She is still trying to grab things. She has attempted a few times to reach for toys but then quickly shoves her hands into her mouth instead. I tried to tempt her with a giraffe here but she would rather have her hands free to spread drool all over her face.
I love giraffes

Ava is also starting to get startled every once in awhile…

But it quickly turns into a smile.

We also had a few visitors stop by to smile with Ava. Nicole and Mikey stopped by my parents house before going to celebrate Sal’s birthday.

And Great Grandma Vinka and Ava had some snuggle time.

Great Grandma Dinka spent the night and Ava wanted to show her how well she stands.
IMG_1905

Ava really enjoys standing. Her entire mood can change in an instant if you lift her up. She stiffens up like a board and gets really excited when she stands.
IMG_1961

In addition to standing, she still loves taking baths. She is really starting to splash with her legs. I couldn’t resist making her look like an ice cream cone during this bath.

And now that she can support her head, we have Ava face out during our baby bjorn walks. We just have to be careful of the sun getting into her eyes.

Ava is also outgrowing her bassinet so we need start transitioning her to the crib. Here she is during her first test nap, which didn’t last long because she wasn’t swaddled and Dan and I were peeking at her every few minutes. Our squeaky floors woke her up.

So, daycare is getting better for Ava and for us. She is starting to talk more there and to smile for her teachers. They do lots of things there to keep her occupied and learning. Like touching ice and playing peek-a-boo. Check her out in the buggy strolling the hallways with her classmates. I guess Ava called shotgun first. hehe.

She also painted for the first time there… and some got on her shirt.

And here is her masterpiece. Don’t be jealous.

First Shopping Trip with Grandma Ester

Thursday, April 26th, 2007

This past weekend, Ava and I spent the weekend at Grandma Ester and Grandpa Jack’s house. Dan had to work so we decided to have a girls day out.

We started off with breakfast at this cute bakery with our little cutie in her lemon dress. Who knew they had such a big clock there for Ava to gaze into…

Then, off we went to the shops around Manhattan Beach.

We tried on little hats…

We played with crazy stuffed animals…
That is one crazy bird

And once we found some cute stuff, we taught Ava to say ‘charge it please’. Just kidding. But, she did hand the card over…
Charge it please!!!

And to complete our shopping trip, a quick nap in the food court. Zzzzzz.

At 13 weeks, Ava has graduated into her 6 month pajamas. Check out those cool frogs on her feet.

Ava also does pretty well sitting up by herself while leaning on the couch.

But, every once in awhile, she will tip to the right… sometimes gracefully while holding her dress up to prevent wrinkles…
IMG_1840

… and sometimes not so gracefully. hehe.

Back in the early weeks of Ava’s life, her smiles would make moon-shaped eyes. Dan gave her the nickname ‘moons for eyes’ or ‘moons’ for short. She doesn’t really do those eyes anymore but these remind us of those times.

Here is Dan hanging out with his ladies. I didn’t have to do too much posing. Yoda usually hangs out on Dan while watching tv, Rudy sleeps on the floor and Ava shuttles between the two of us.

Last weekend, we spent some time hanging out at Grace’s house. Ava was the only one paying any attention to me and the camera.

And, Ava smiled for the first time at Grace this weekend. We posed them on the couch together for some pictures. They did pretty well. But eventually, Ava slid behind Grace (always to the right) and Grace got bored and decided to poke her finger almost in Ava’s eye :)

Here are Dan and Ava hanging out at daycare in the morning. They both have the “it’s too early for pictures” look on thier faces.

And at daycare, I try to get Ava to sleep before we leave for work. By the time we wake up, get ready and arrive there, it is her naptime again.

See you all next week!

Guess who is 3 months old…

I can’t believe our little munchkin turned 3 months old this week.
IMG_1664

Ava finally got to meet Grandpa Jwu this week. She had lots of fun playing with him. And even got a gold necklace symbolizing long life.
IMG_1573

We also celebrated Easter at Grandpa Jack and Grandma Ester’s house on Sunday. Great Grandpa Slavo said we picked a good name for Ava. Here is Great Grandma Dinka and Ava smiling at each other.
IMG_1606

Thanks everyone for the great Easter gifts. Ava enjoys putting everything in her mouth, even bunny ears!
IMG_1700

This week was our first week back at work and at daycare. And, we all got sick thanks to some daycare baby. Ava has a cough and a stuffy nose. Since we spend a few hours less with Ava a day now, we make sure we spend lots of time in the afternoons laughing together.
IMG_1676

On Ava’s first day of school, she learned how to lift her dress up and put it in her mouth. I think we will be sending her to an all girls school ;)
IMG_1656

I finally cut her toe nails for the first time. They weren’t very long. She got those monkey toes from her father.
IMG_1722

It was too bright outside next to the pretty wisteria. I think we need to get Ava a pair of sunglasses soon.

And finally, here is Ava’s “Let’s Get Physical” photo… hehe.

First Real Day in School

Wednesday, April 11th, 2007

This past Monday was Ava’s official first day in school as Marlene and I headed back to the 8-5 grind. She is still getting use to it and the teachers are getting to know her better everyday. Marlene is at first working half day from home so we get to pick her up at lunch to bring her home. She was the youngest there on her first day but by Wednesday, we already have a little 2 month old there to be her friend.
